Our Mission

The Backlight Student Film Festival is a nonprofit organization devoted to fostering innovation and creativity within the Georgia film community by promoting and highlighting the work of aspiring student filmmakers. Backlight unites students and industry professionals across the state, offering opportunities for growth and professional advancement.

As the film industry expands into Georgia, we provide outlets for student filmmakers to showcase their talents and build connections within their local film community.

Founded in 2022, Backlight offers a variety of opportunities for students to develop their talent in the media entertainment industry through a student mixer, red carpet, film screening, industry panels, and an awards ceremony featuring notable figures.

The festival aims to help celebrate and showcase the talent of these students, providing a platform for community recognition that illuminates the talent of young filmmakers and encourages student creation, communication, and collaboration.

The Backlight Student Film Festival strives to provide Georgia students with the opportunity to participate in a competitive festival environment that will help illuminate their passion and help them to stand out amongst other filmmakers.
